UPDATE 4/21: As part of the Alaska State Trooper criminal investigation on April 21, 2026, Troopers arrested 35-year-old Willow resident Misty Rehder on 26 counts of Cruelty to Animals. She was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial without incident. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank the Alaskans who contributed to our investigation. 

ORIGINAL: On April 15, 2026, the Alaska State Troopers were asked to assist Mat-Su Borough Animal Control with an investigation in the Caswell Lakes area. Upon arrival Troopers located 25 deceased dogs. A criminal animal cruelty investigation has been started by Troopers. Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
